Liturgy and Music

 

Ministers of the Word (Lectors): Ministers of the word proclaim God’s living Word at weekend services and special liturgies. These members have a desire to share their love of God’s written word, and their skill in proclaiming it. Both adult and high school students are welcome.

Eucharistic Ministers: These ministers assist in the distribution of the Eucharist at Mass and to the homebound with reverence and dignity. There is a pre- placement interview for this position.

The Liturgy Committee: The members of the Liturgy committee plan and implement liturgical celebrations. They coordinate, design, and oversee ideas and projects for the liturgical year. Orientation and education will be provided.

Family Liturgy Committee (Family Lit):: The Family Liturgy Committee is concerned with involving families of the community in the celebration of the Sunday Family Liturgy. One of the main goals of the committee is to help provide an atmosphere where faith can be shared, developed, and renewed, with a sense of joy and celebration.

The Ministry of Music at Saint Rose of Lima

SAINT ROSE OF LIMA CHORISTERS – For boys and girls in grades 3-8
Weekly rehearsals are held on Thursday from 4:00 until 4:55 pm, September through May. The choir sings a Saturday 5:15 pm and Sunday 10:00 am liturgy each month. Vocal technique, Choir chimes, handbells, and rhythm games are incorporated into well organized, fun rehearsals. An audition is required for placement.

SAINT ROSE OF LIMA FAMILY LITURGY CHOIR - For boys and girls in grades 1-6

Weekly rehearsals are held on Tuesday from 6:00 pm until 6:55 pm, September through May. The choir sings for the 10:00 am Family Liturgy each week. All children are welcome.

SAINT ROSE OF LIMA HIGH SCHOOL / ADULT CHOIR – For high school students and adults of all ages who enjoy singing

Most join for the entire year. Consideration will be given to those who may want to make a commitment to sing September through the Christmas season, or January through the Easter Season. All levels of talent are welcome, no audition required.

Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings from 7:45 until 9:15 pm and Sunday at 10:30 am for bass and tenor (full choir at 11:00 am) in the choir loft. The High School / Adult Choir sings weekly for the 11:30 am Sunday Liturgy. Rehearsals are from September through May.

HANDBELL CHOIR / HANDCHIME CHOIR – For adults of all ages and young people 12 years of age and older.

Weekly rehearsals, this choir will play for various services monthly. Attending an introductory workshop is required for placement. Workshops are held throughout the year.

CANTOR PROGRAM – For high school/college students who study voice privately and are interested in leading the congregation in song.

A commitment to sing with the High School/Adult Choir is a prerequisite for consideration.

CHAMBER ORCHESTRA – For high school and adult instrumentalists: strings, woodwinds, brass and keyboard.

Prerequisite: A rating of "Outstanding" level 6 NYSSMA (students) or by audition. This ensemble will regularly augment our choir masses as soloists or in smaller ensembles.

Usher/Greeter
: These members of the congregation welcome all who come to weekend and Holy Day liturgies. They also gather collections. Ministers in this group are outgoing individuals who enjoy meeting new people and making them feel "at home".

Rosary Altar Society: This group is devoted to Mary and recites the fifteen mysteries of the Rosary weekly.
