Religious Education Grades 1-6

Adult Education | First Communion | Confirmation | Grades 1-6 | Saturday Programs Grades 4- 6

CrossOur children are the most important resource for the future. With this in mind the Religious Education Ministry strives to not only teach the essential doctrines and traditions of our Catholic faith but also to instill in them a love of Jesus. We place a special emphasis on participation in liturgy and the need to care for and respect others. Parents are invited to become an integral part of our ministry. We hope our parents will consider being a volunteer or a catechist. Our knowledgeable and dedicated staff assists in the preparation of our valued volunteers. We provide grade level meetings as well as various opportunities for ongoing support.

GRADE 1
This is the first part of the two-year preparation for First Eucharist. Since we recognize the fact that parents are the primary educators, they mainly teach this exciting piece of our program. Each child attends a once a month program in the school on Saturday from 11:30-12:30. Parents who are participating for the first time must attend a meeting during the time their children are in class. The Coordinator of Religious Education, Kelly Kraemer addresses topics that coincide with the lessons being taught in the home sessions.

GRADE 2
This is the second year of preparation for First Eucharist. Groups of 6-10 children meet in Catechists homes for approximately 25 weekly sessions. They will be preparing to receive First Reconciliation in January and First Eucharist on a Saturday after Easter.

As part of the preparation all parents must attend three preparation classes.  October on Liturgy, November on Reconciliation and March on Eucharist.

In addition there will be several liturgies during the year that children and parents are expected to attend.

GRADE 3
Groups of 6-10 children are instructed by two trained catechists in one of their homes for approximately 25 sessions. To complement the home instruction, there will be several liturgies and a Tour of the Church.

GRADES 4, 5, & 6
Parents have option of home classes or Saturday sessions in St. Rose of Lima School building. Saturday sessions are from either 8:30-9:30am or 10-11am. Several liturgies and Stations of the Cross supplement the instruction.

YOUTH FOR OUTREACH
Projects for Grades 1-6
All of our students participate in several service projects during the year. The types of projects are making cards for our homebound parishioners, soldiers and to welcome new parents when they come for Baptism, collecting coins and supplies to donate to our community Outreach, collecting supplies for soldier and children in Iraq, donating socks, gloves and hats to homeless and contributing school supplies for those who cannot afford to purchase their own.

As Pope John Paul said, "The family finds in the plan of God the Creator and Redeemer not only its identity, what it is, but also its mission, what it can and should do." The role and mission of the family is to be the "first and vital cell of society" and a "community of life and love," that in its actions and by its example will transform the world. With his words of inspiration we are reminded of the critical role parents, guardians and extended family members play in the education of our youth. They are the first and most important teachers of faith to the children. St Rose religious education hopes to promote a Catholic culture in every home that will aid each family in becoming the best we can be.

To assist us in this goal our dedicated catechists continue to be committed to the enhancement and enrichment of the religious education experience of the youngest members of our church community.

We welcome all those that hear the call to discipleship in sharing their personal faith journey with our parish children, and invite you to contact our religious education offices for information regarding how you can become a part of our ministry of faith sharing.
